Carlos Gerke Mendieta began his legal practice after obtaining his Bachelor of Law and Political Science degree from the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in 1967.
Throughout his career as a lawyer he has advised local and international clients on a wide variety of issues in civil, commercial, banking, natural resources, mining and investment in major infrastructure projects executed in Bolivia.
Gerke Mendieta has been part of the Board of Directors of the most important banks in Bolivia, mining companies, leading industrial companies in their areas, Universidad Católica Boliviana "San Pablo", the Andean Commission of Jurists and non-profit organizations, including a national newspaper and the La Paz Bar Association, among many others.
Dr. Gerke's brilliant career as a lawyer, counselor, director, adviser in legislative matters, as a professor and writer, places him among the great jurists of his time in Bolivia and in the region.
He has received several awards, recognitions and honors throughout his life, among which the title of Commander of the Order of San Gregorio Magno awarded by Pope John Paul II, the Doctor of Honoris Causa of Universidad Católica Boliviana "San Pablo", and the" Hernando Siles "Prize awarded by Universidad Mayor de San Andrés.
